Sundance Mountain Resort will open more than 100 acres of new ski terrain for the 2026-27 season, completing the first phase of its back-mountain development and pushing the resort's total skiable acreage to 605, according to TownLift.

The expansion at the Utah County resort, about 45 minutes south of Park City, makes Sundance a growing competitor for regional skier traffic alongside Park City Mountain and Deer Valley.

The centerpiece is the Electric Horseman, a high-speed quad that will carry skiers and snowboarders 1,850 vertical feet per lap, reaching the back-mountain summit in about six minutes. The resort says the lift will cut the parking-lot-to-summit trip to just two lift rides and shorten lines that have bottlenecked back-mountain access, according to its expansion page.

Alongside the lift, Sundance is opening Storyteller, a 1.7-mile upper-intermediate groomed run carved along the ridgeline formerly known as the Far East Ridgeline. The run features sweeping turns with views of the surrounding peaks. Three new gladed chutes will also feed back into Storyteller's base.

Both names nod to the legacy of founder Robert Redford, who died Sept. 16, 2025, at his home at the foot of Mount Timpanogos. The lift shares its name with a 1979 Redford film, and "Storyteller" echoes a phrase Redford often used about the resort's identity. The resort said the names reflect its emphasis on storytelling and creative heritage.

The expansion caps a five-year building streak. In 2021, Sundance opened the Outlaw Express lift, cutting the ride to Mandan Summit from roughly 20 minutes to seven. The resort added 50-plus acres of intermediate terrain and expanded snowmaking in 2022, opened the Mountain Camp Day Lodge in 2024 and debuted a 63-room ski-in/ski-out inn in January 2026.

Chad Linebaugh, president and general manager of Sundance Mountain Resort, said in a September 2025 statement honoring Redford that the founder's "commitment to this canyon was a calling that went beyond love."

More than 70% of the resort's acreage remains protected through conservation easements. Redford acquired the former Timp Haven ski area in 1968 and sold it to Broadreach Capital Partners and Cedar Capital Partners in 2020.

Sundance has not announced a specific opening day for the 2026-27 season.
