Summit County ballots for the Nov. 3 general election start mailing to active registered voters Tuesday, Oct. 13.
County Clerk Malena Stevens told TownLift that voters should know the deadlines and make sure their ballots reach the county on time.
Recent local races show why. The 2025 Park City mayoral race between Ryan Dickey and Jack Rubin was decided by seven votes after a recount. Two Summit County Council primaries in 2026 were decided by margins of 15 and 50 votes.
Here are the dates that matter.
Oct. 23: Registration deadline
Friday, Oct. 23, is the last day to register and receive a ballot by mail. The Summit County Clerk's Office must receive registration by 5 p.m. Voters who miss that cutoff can still cast a provisional ballot in person during early voting or on Election Day.
Oct. 27: Last day to request a mailed ballot
Registered voters have until 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, to request a ballot by mail.
Oct. 28–31: Early voting
In-person early voting runs Wednesday, Oct. 28, through Saturday, Oct. 31, at two locations:
- Summit County Courthouse Clerk's Office, 60 N. Main St., Coalville: 8 a.m.–4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, 8 a.m.–1 p.m. Saturday
- Sheldon Richins Building, 1885 W. Ute Blvd., Kimball Junction: 8 a.m.–1 p.m. all four days
Nov. 3: Election Day
Polls open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at four locations. Any Summit County voter may vote at any of them regardless of precinct:
- Coalville City Hall, 10 N. Main St., Coalville
- Summit County Library Kamas Branch, 110 N. Main St., Kamas
- Sheldon Richins Building, 1885 W. Ute Blvd., Kimball Junction
- Summit County Health Department, 650 Round Valley Drive, Park City (Quinn's Junction)
Returning your ballot
Mailed ballots must reach the Clerk's Office by 8 p.m. on Election Day. The same deadline applies to ballots placed in an official drop box.
"Every election, there are ballots that are mailed back to our office that we can't count because we receive them after this deadline," Stevens said. "The law doesn't give us any flexibility to count them after 8:00 p.m. on Election Day."
The county has 11 official drop boxes, including at the Park City Library, the Sheldon Richins Building, Jeremy Ranch Park & Ride, The Market at Park City, and the Summit County Health Department at Quinn's Junction. Additional boxes are in Coalville, Kamas, Oakley, Francis and Henefer. Many are open 24 hours. Full addresses and hours are listed on the county's election page.
One change on the ballot
All of Summit County now falls in the 3rd Congressional District after redistricting upheld by the Utah Supreme Court, the Park Record reported Sept. 29. The county was previously split between the 3rd and 1st districts.
Stevens is also a candidate for the clerk position on the Nov. 3 ballot.
Voters can check registration, view sample ballots and find drop-box details at Vote.Utah.gov or summitcountyutah.gov/281/Voter-Registration-Elections. The Summit County Elections Office can be reached at 435-336-3040.
