Park City Municipal pointed to a national parks and recreation award on Sept. 26, highlighting the city's designation as a National Champion from Polco's Best in Governance Awards.

The award was announced at the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) Annual Conference in October 2025 in Tampa, Florida. Park City earned the honor in the "Voice of the People — Best in Excellence" category, which recognizes communities where residents rate quality of life and government services among the highest in the nation.

The designation drew from Park City's National Community Survey, where residents reported strong experiences with parks, trails and recreation opportunities. Park City Municipal noted the recognition in a post on X, citing the city's more than 80 acres of parks, plazas, cemeteries and sports complexes.

Polco describes the program as the nation's only awards honoring communities for both resident experience and measurable outcomes, according to the organization's awards page. The Voice of the People Awards are presented in partnership with ICMA.

Those 80 acres sit inside a much larger footprint. Park City spans nearly 12,794 acres, and roughly 10,000 are preserved as open space through acquisition or public planning, according to the city's Trails and Open Space page. The Trails and Open Space Team manages about 5,960 acres owned by Park City Municipal Corporation (PCMC), performing wildfire mitigation and noxious weed abatement year-round. Each year the team maintains 172 miles of summer trails and 70 kilometers of winter trails.

The national recognition adds to a string of designations for the city. Park City has held "Tree City USA" status for 33 years. In July 2026, the city earned an Accessibility Verified designation from Wheel the World, with efforts partly driven by preparations for the 2034 Olympics and Paralympics, the Park Record reported.

The city's parks system also includes the Park City Municipal Athletic and Recreation Center, the Park City Golf Club and the Ian Weinman Legacy Dog Park.
