Park City's defense turned Uintah turnovers into 22 unanswered points Friday, Sept. 25, powering the Miners to a 42-21 homecoming win at Dozier Field.

The victory pushed Park City to 3-1 in 4A Region 8 and 3-4 overall, according to MaxPreps. The Miners have won two straight heading into a favorable road matchup.

Dozier Field hosted its first homecoming game. The field is part of a nearly $48 million athletic facilities renovation at Park City High School that also includes new baseball, softball and mixed-use fields along Kearns Boulevard.

The Miners built a 20-0 first-half lead, but Uintah stormed back with two touchdowns in 31 seconds before halftime and then took a 21-20 lead in the third quarter, KPCW reported. Park City's defense stiffened from there, forcing turnovers that the offense converted into the 22-point closing run.

The play that swung the game: senior quarterback Josh Hofer connected with senior wide receiver Brogan Price on a 60-yard touchdown to put the Miners back ahead, 26-21. It was the same combination that produced the game-winning score in Park City's 22-21 comeback over Provo on Monday, Sept. 21.

First-year head coach Dennis Cunningham had predicted a packed house before the game. "The stands were packed for our first game … This is homecoming. I think there's going to be more of the stands open. I'm hoping they're packed again," Cunningham told the Park Record on Sept. 22, previewing the matchup after the Provo win.

The win keeps the Miners in the thick of the Region 8 playoff race. The UHSAA reduced the 4A playoff field from 24 to 16 teams this season, making every region result count.

Park City travels to Heber City to face the Wasatch Wasps, 1-6 overall and 1-3 in region play, on Friday, Oct. 2, with kickoff at 7 p.m. KPCW will carry live coverage. The Miners then play at Timpanogos on Thursday, Oct. 8 and host Deer Creek on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
