Drivers who use Olympic Parkway in Kimball Junction should plan alternate routes starting Thursday night. The road will be fully closed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for five consecutive nights beginning August 6 as High Valley Transit crews install new traffic control systems for the $110 million Bobsled Express bus rapid transit project.
State Route 224 through the intersection will also be reduced to one lane in each direction during those overnight hours.
"We've got some work going on there for the next five nights, and overnight, Olympic Parkway is going to be closed," High Valley Transit Chief Development Officer Gabe Shields told KPCW on Monday, August 3. "[State Route] 224 is going to be reduced down to one lane. This is just night work… from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m."
On Thursday night, August 7, crews will install drainage pipes under the Old Ranch Road and Silver Springs Road intersections with SR-224. Those lanes will also close overnight.
Detour routes
Old Ranch Road traffic will be rerouted to Split Rail Lane and Cutter Lane. Silver Springs Road residents should head north on SR-224 to access Silver Springs Road from the north.
SR-224 paving nears in Park City
Farther south along SR-224 in Park City, Shields said crews are finishing water lines and utility relocations. Road base was being laid the week of August 3, with new curb and gutter work beginning that same week. Paving is scheduled to start August 19.
Separately, the Utah Department of Transportation's pavement preservation project from the Marsac roundabout to SR-248 (Kearns Boulevard) will continue to cause lane closures along that stretch.
As we reported July 30, nightly lane reductions on SR-224 have been ongoing for BRT drainage work. The full Olympic Parkway closure represents a more significant disruption for Kimball Junction commuters.
