The Summit County Public Art Advisory Board will consider buying a sculpture for a local roundabout and take the next step toward commissioning artwork for the new PEAK Center lobby when it meets Tuesday, August 4, at 4 p.m., according to the board's posted agenda.

Public Art Coordinator Jenny Diersen will lead the board through a proposal to convert an existing art-on-loan piece into a permanent purchase for a roundabout, following the county's Public Art Policies. The specific roundabout and artwork have not been publicly identified, though a Letter of Intent is included in the board's meeting packet.

The larger agenda item is the PEAK Building discussion. The board has been working since spring to define where and how art should appear inside the former Skullcandy headquarters at 6301 N. Landmark Drive in Kimball Junction, which Summit County is converting into a public services hub with a library branch, DMV office, and county council chambers.

At its May 5 meeting, the board settled on the main lobby as the priority location. Board member Megan said at that meeting that the lobby would be "the most public facing for all visitors." The county manager later endorsed that direction, and in a written board update distributed at the July 7 meeting, staff said the forthcoming RFP would remain open-ended so artists could propose murals, hanging sculptures, or other formats.

The budget for the PEAK artwork sits at roughly $50,000 to $60,000. For comparison, the Kamas Library public art project cost $60,000.

Tuesday's discussion will incorporate new site information to refine the RFP, which the board planned to develop and release between August and October, with artist selection to follow. The stakes are tangible. The PEAK Center itself is on track to open its ground floor before the end of 2026.

Summit County purchased the building in 2025 and approved a $4.2 million contract with Zwick Construction for the ground-floor build-out, which was on schedule and under budget as of March.

Jocelyn Scudder, executive director of the Arts Council of Park City & Summit County, will also update the board on the Park City Public Art Advisory Board and the Arts Council's activities. The board will hear FY27 budget and grant updates as well.
