Drivers heading between Old Town, the resorts, and Kimball Junction face a new layer of construction starting Monday, Aug. 3, as UDOT launches pavement preservation and pedestrian upgrades on SR-224 and Deer Valley Drive while crews continue building turn lanes at the Ute Boulevard intersection.

The two projects join the I-80 Jeremy Ranch bridge replacement, which also begins Aug. 3, and ongoing BRT drainage work already narrowing SR-224 at night. Together, they create overlapping lane closures on Park City's primary north-south corridor through fall 2026.

SR-224 repaving: Marsac Roundabout to Kearns Boulevard

UDOT will resurface more than a mile of SR-224 and Deer Valley Drive between the Marsac Roundabout and Kearns Boulevard (SR-248), according to KPCW. The work includes ADA-compliant pedestrian accessibility upgrades, per UDOT's project page.

"Milling and paving operations should take place overnight between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. and this will be for about five to six nights," UDOT spokesperson Kylar Sharp told KPCW. "Most other activities will occur during the daytime hours."

Drivers should expect temporary lane closures, traffic shifts, and reduced speeds. The overall project continues through fall 2026, though the heaviest overnight disruption is limited to roughly one week.

Kimball Junction: turn lanes at Ute Boulevard

At the SR-224 and Ute Boulevard intersection in Kimball Junction, UDOT is adding dual left-turn lanes in both directions, according to a July 20 KPCW report. Overnight work includes excavation, repaving, and painting new lane markings.

High Valley Transit Chief Development Officer Gabriel Shields described the nighttime impact in that July 20 interview: "At nighttime, drivers can expect a single lane closure on the west side of 224 there at Ute."

The turn-lane project is separate from the $110 million Bobsled Express BRT line under construction along the same corridor, though both share road space and contribute to delays near Kimball Junction's retail and restaurant district.

I-80 Jeremy Ranch bridge replacement

Also starting Monday, Aug. 3, crews will begin replacing the eastbound and westbound I-80 bridges at the Jeremy Ranch interchange. Most traffic impacts will hit Homestead Road, which drops to one lane while the new bridges are built alongside the existing structure. The pedestrian path shifts as well.

Weekday work runs 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with night work as needed. As we reported July 23, the bridge project is expected to run through summer 2027, with up to two full weekend I-80 shutdowns planned for spring 2027.

What it means for getting around

Every major route connecting Old Town to Kimball Junction and I-80 now carries active construction zones. Nighttime travelers on SR-224 face the most concentrated disruption, with multiple projects reducing lanes between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

That's a lot of orange cones.
