Shoppers, commuters, and resort-bound visitors heading through the Jeremy Ranch interchange toward Kimball Junction will face lane closures and traffic shifts starting Monday, August 3, when the Utah Department of Transportation begins replacing two 50-year-old Interstate 80 bridges.
The project will run through summer 2027, according to UDOT's project page for the I-80 Jeremy Ranch Bridges Reconstruction. The biggest disruption comes in spring 2027, when UDOT plans up to two full weekend closures of I-80 at Jeremy Ranch to remove the old bridges and slide new ones into place.
Jeremy Ranch sits on the primary I-80 corridor between Salt Lake City and the Snyderville Basin. The interchange feeds Homestead Road, which connects to Kimball Junction's retail and restaurant district and serves as a key artery for workers and tourists reaching Park City.
What to expect starting August 3
UDOT will use a technique called Accelerated Bridge Construction, which allows crews to build the replacement bridges next to the existing structures, then slide them into final position during the brief weekend closures. The method shortens the overall timeline compared with traditional demolish-and-rebuild approaches.
During the construction period, UDOT says drivers should expect:
- Lane closures on Homestead Road
- Periodic traffic shifts on I-80
- Construction activity Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Homestead Trail rerouted onto the road
- Increased noise, dust, and vibration for nearby residents
Spring 2027: full I-80 weekend shutdowns
The heaviest impact won't hit until spring 2027. UDOT plans up to two weekend-long full closures of I-80 at the interchange to remove the old eastbound and westbound bridges and position the new structures. Exact dates have not been announced. UDOT says it will release those dates closer to the closures.
Why now
UDOT determined that replacing the bridges is more cost-effective than continuing to patch aging structures. The agency says the new bridges will provide a smoother ride and reduce long-term maintenance costs along the corridor.
The Jeremy Ranch project is part of UDOT's broader push to modernize I-80 through Parleys Canyon and Summit County, which also includes repaving and other bridge upgrades along the route.
