The outage was first reported at 12:40 p.m. and affected 1,154 customers, according to Rocky Mountain Power. The utility dispatched crews but had not confirmed the cause as of 2:55 p.m. Monday.

Businesses forced to close

The Park City Walmart shut its doors due to the loss of power. Additional businesses in the Kimball Junction commercial corridor may have also been affected, though a full list was not available.

Restoration timeline shifted

Rocky Mountain Power initially estimated power would return by 3:30 p.m. Monday. The utility later pushed that estimate back, saying it expected service restored before 6:30 p.m. Whether power returned by 6:30 p.m. has not been confirmed.

Construction context

The outage comes amid significant roadwork in the Kimball Junction corridor. As of July 20, the Utah Department of Transportation was installing dual left turn lanes on Ute Boulevard at State Route 224, with nightly utility relocation work from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. That work is part of High Valley Transit's $110 million "Bobsled Express" bus rapid transit project on SR-224, expected to be completed by 2028.
