The Park City Women's 9-Hole Golf League expects to raise $25,000 at its 30th annual Rally for a Cure on Tuesday, July 28, at the Park City Golf Club. Non-golfers are welcome.
Golf professional Cynthia Brown launched the fundraiser three decades ago when league members kept losing friends and teammates to breast cancer. What started as a members-only golf day has grown into a community-wide event that drew $22,000 in 2025, according to organizers.
Brown now chairs Playing for Life, the Park City 501(c)(3) that distributes proceeds to three beneficiaries: Huntsman Cancer Institute, The People's Health Clinic, and Image Reborn Foundation, which provides free renewal retreats for breast cancer survivors at locations including Park City and Heber.
"Our rally today has evolved into an event where anybody can participate whether they're a golfer or not," tournament organizer Callaway Zuccarello told KPCW on Monday, July 27. "Anybody in the community can swing by and participate in a few things, but mainly our opportunity draws."
The opportunity drawing features more than 30 baskets and experiences, according to the event website. Prizes include rounds of golf at Promontory, Canyons, Park Meadows Country Club, and ParOne at SkyRidge, a new course near the Jordanelle. Dining prizes include a night at the Lodge at Blue Sky or Matilda, and brunch at Five5eeds.
Basket tickets start at $5 each. Golf-round tickets cost $25 per chance or $100 for five. Entrants do not need to be present to win.
The league has grown to 375 members, making it the largest women's nine-hole golf league in Utah, according to TownLift. Five years ago, the league had about 165 members and raised roughly $5,000. By 2024, membership topped 260 and the fundraiser brought in $19,000.
League co-chair Kathy Roll told the Park Record the event began because so many women in the league had personal experiences with breast cancer. League member Kathy Higginson noted that one in eight women will be diagnosed with the disease in their lifetime.
New for 2026: a closest-to-the-line driving competition where entrants try to land tee shots nearest a rope along a fairway. Entry costs $10; the winner takes half the pot and the rest goes to charity.
Corporate sponsorships start at $400 and include signage at tee boxes. Individual sponsorships are $250. Supporters can also purchase "Hands of Hope" in honor or memory of someone affected by cancer.
