Drivers on SR-224 between Kimball Junction and Park City will hit lane reductions overnight for the next three weeks as crews reline drainage pipes beneath the roadway.

The Utah Department of Transportation announced, according to TownLift, that lanes will be reduced in active work zones nightly from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., starting Wednesday, July 29. The affected stretch runs from the Payday/Holiday Ranch area to Ute Boulevard, one of the busiest segments of Summit County's primary north-south corridor.

The work is overnight only.

The drainage pipe relining is part of High Valley Transit's $110 million Bobsled Express Bus Rapid Transit project, which will eventually add dedicated bus lanes, six stations, and frequent electric bus service connecting Kimball Junction with Old Town Park City. High Valley Transit expects completion by 2028.

UDOT and High Valley Transit are urging motorists to slow down through the construction zone and watch for workers and shifting traffic patterns.

Gabriel Shields, High Valley Transit's chief development officer, said on KPCW July 20 that drivers should "look for uniformed officers in the intersection to be doing traffic control, and we please ask drivers to pay attention and be mindful of those safety crews." Shields made that statement while discussing earlier BRT work near Deer Valley Drive; High Valley Transit has issued similar guidance for all active SR-224 work zones this summer.

The overnight lane reductions are the latest in a series of construction disruptions along SR-224 this summer. As we reported July 28, trail and sidewalk detours are already in place for pedestrians and cyclists along the corridor. Earlier in July, crews also closed lanes overnight at Old Ranch Road and Silver Springs Drive for storm drain work.

Construction on the BRT project is expected to continue throughout the 2026 season with various roadway, utility, and drainage improvements along the corridor.
