Two men died Monday morning, Aug. 3, after a northbound car crossed into oncoming traffic on State Route 32 near Jordanelle State Park, a stretch of highway Park City and Snyderville Basin residents use daily to reach the Kamas Valley and Heber.

The crash happened around 6:45 a.m. near milepost 8 in the Rock Cliff area, according to Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Eddie Wright. A white Toyota Camry heading north toward Francis drifted off the roadway, and the driver overcorrected, KPCW reported. The car rotated roughly 90 degrees and came to rest sideways in the southbound lane.

A southbound Jeep Wrangler then struck the passenger side of the Camry.

Both men died at the scene. UHP described the victims as a man in his 20s and a man in his 40s but had not released their identities as of Monday afternoon, pending notification of family members.

The Jeep driver sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. That driver was not transported to a hospital.

SR-32 was temporarily closed while emergency crews responded and investigators documented the scene, TownLift reported. UDOT Traffic posted an alert Monday morning noting the crash at milepost 8 southbound with all lanes open and an estimated 60-minute clearance time.

The section of SR-32 near Rock Cliff is a two-lane, undivided highway with no center barrier separating opposing traffic.

No cause for the initial lane departure has been determined. UHP has not indicated whether impairment, distraction, or a medical event played a role. The investigation is ongoing, and UHP has not announced when victim identities or findings will be released.
