Summit County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested an individual on kidnapping and assault charges after responding to a domestic violence call in the Snyderville Basin during the Aug. 3-16 period, according to the agency's weekly report published by Petr Herink in the Park Record.
The individual also had a felony warrant out of New Mexico and a separate warrant for missing a court appearance in a prior domestic violence case involving the same victim, the shift reports show. Deputies booked the individual into the Summit County Jail on charges including kidnapping, aggravated assault, assault, threats of violence and interrupting a communication device.
The arrest was one of several notable incidents in the Sheriff's Office report covering Aug. 3-16.
Five DUI arrests in two weeks
Deputies made five suspected DUI arrests during the period, with stops concentrated on S.R. 224 and Old Highway 40.
On Aug. 16, deputies stopped a car with an expired registration on S.R. 224. The driver admitted to consuming "several alcoholic beverages" over the previous hour, performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was booked into the Summit County Jail.
A day earlier, on Aug. 15, another driver was stopped on S.R. 224 after deputies observed multiple traffic violations. The driver had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. Deputies determined the driver could not safely operate a vehicle and made the arrest.
On Aug. 12, a driver crashed into a piece of construction equipment on Old Highway 40, showed signs of impairment and was booked after receiving medical clearance. On Aug. 8, a driver who backed into a parked bus was arrested on a suspected DUI. And on Aug. 3, deputies stopped a vehicle near S.R. 224 and Newpark Boulevard for a registration violation; the driver, who stopped in the middle of the road before being directed to the shoulder, admitted to drinking at a wine tasting event and was arrested.
Search and Rescue responds to backcountry calls
Summit County Search and Rescue fielded multiple calls during the two-week stretch, most near high-country lakes.
The most serious came Aug. 6 near Notch Lake, where a hiker dislocated his knee. A Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter hoisted him to the trailhead for medical care.
On Aug. 5, crews helped transport a patient from near Wall Lake to the trailhead; that individual was then taken to the hospital. The same day, Search and Rescue teams searched on foot and with drones near a scenic pull-off on Interstate 80 after a vehicle belonging to a missing person was found nearby. They did not locate the individual.
An overdue hiker near Fehr Lake on Aug. 16 and a medical emergency near Ryder Lake on Aug. 15 were both resolved before crews arrived on scene.
Other incidents
On Aug. 4, deputies responded to a fight at a Kimball Junction retail store. Witnesses reported two people in a physical altercation in the parking lot. One was a juvenile; deputies arrested the adult and transported them to the Summit County Jail.
Also on Aug. 4, a traffic stop on Paintbrush Road for multiple violations and suspicious driving led to an arrest after deputies found the car's registration was revoked, the driver had no insurance or valid license, and the vehicle's VIN was, according to the shift report, "purposely concealed" and illegible. Deputies impounded the vehicle.
