Cyclists and pedestrians who use the McLeod Creek Trail and Millennium Trail along SR-224 are facing detours through November as High Valley Transit's $110 million Bobsled Express bus rapid transit project reshapes the corridor from Kimball Junction to Old Town.
Sections of the McLeod Creek Trail on the east side of SR-224 are restricted between Silver Springs Drive and Cutter Lane. High Valley Transit directs trail users to cross to the Millennium Trail on the west side at Cutter Lane or use the underpass near Newpark Boulevard.
A second McLeod Creek Trail closure runs from just north of Silver Springs Drive and Bear Hollow Drive to Canyons Resort Drive. The posted detour follows Bear Hollow Drive to Cooper Lane and the Frostwood Trail before reconnecting near Canyons Resort Drive.
The Millennium Trail itself is restricted between Landmark Drive and Olympic Parkway. Closer to Old Town, the sidewalk on the west side of Park Avenue is closed between Lame Dog Lane and Empire Avenue, with pedestrians directed to cross south of the road or use a route near Homestake Road.
The detours are posted.
"We do want to emphasize the importance of following all the marked detours and closures, really focusing on our cyclists and pedestrians," High Valley Transit Chief Development Officer Gabe Shields said in a July 20 KPCW interview.
Lane shifts and overnight closures
Drivers face their own disruptions. SR-224 in Kimball Junction is reduced to one lane in each direction while crews work on the Olympic Parkway intersection. Olympic Parkway is closed overnight from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for five nights beginning Thursday, Aug. 6, according to KPCW.
Overnight lane closures are also planned at the Old Ranch Road and Silver Springs Road intersections for drainage pipe installation. Old Ranch Road traffic is detoured to Split Rail Lane and Cutter Lane.
UDOT's Wasatch Back construction team has advised drivers to expect delays near the SR-224 intersections with Bobsled Boulevard and Cutter Lane as crews upgrade traffic signals. Police officers will help direct traffic during portions of the work, according to TownLift.
High Valley Transit says two lanes will remain open in each direction on SR-224 whenever possible. Paving in the Park City segment of SR-224 is scheduled to begin Aug. 19, following completion of water line and utility relocation work in that area.
Bus stop closure
The bus stop at Canyons Resort Drive and Highway 224 is temporarily closed through Sept. 30. Riders should use the Canyons Resort Park-and-Ride stop on the west side of the 7-Eleven, High Valley Transit said.
What's ahead
Construction began April 1 and is proceeding in three phases through summer 2028, with work pausing over winter months. As we reported July 30, the 2026 season includes utility relocations, drainage improvements, roadway reconstruction and new transit stations. Active construction zones are located near Olympic Parkway, Bear Hollow Drive, Silver Springs Road, Canyons Resort Drive and the Park Avenue-Deer Valley Drive intersection.
