Summit County residents 55 and older have two chances on Wednesday, July 29, and Thursday, July 30, to tell the county what senior services should look like going forward, including whether the county should build a continuing care retirement community.

The county is holding input sessions on consecutive days: Wednesday, July 29, from 11 a.m. to noon at the North Summit Senior Center, 150 Park Road in Coalville, and Thursday, July 30, from noon to 1 p.m. in the auditorium at the South Summit Senior Center, 110 N. Main St. in Kamas.

The county says the feedback will inform Summit County Council policy and budget decisions, according to a July 27 announcement. The county's 2026 work plan calls for hiring a consultant to study possible program expansion, future public investment, and the feasibility of a continuing care retirement community within Summit County. No consultant has been named publicly, and no contract amount or timeline for the feasibility study has been disclosed.

The July meetings are the second round of public outreach. The county held two earlier sessions in June: a dinner on Wednesday, June 17, at the Ledges Event Center in Coalville and a luncheon on Friday, June 19, at the Park City Senior Center. Both were open to all county residents 55 and older, including people who do not currently use county senior programming.

Summit County operates senior centers in Coalville, Park City, and Kamas. Services include group meals, social activities, day trips, volunteer opportunities, and rides to medical appointments when volunteer drivers are available.

Separately, County Manager Shayne Scott said during a July 14 KPCW interview that Summit County will discuss its expected contributions to a new Park City senior center during fiscal year 2027 budget talks later this year. That project is separate from the county-wide strategic plan discussed at the July 29 and July 30 meetings.

No date has been announced for when the strategic plan or consultant findings will come before the Summit County Council.
