Fred Tackett and Scott Sharrard are ditching the electric swamp boogie of Little Feat for two acoustic guitars, a stack of stories, and four shows inside the Egyptian Theatre on Main Street.
The duo performs Thursday, July 30, through Saturday, August 1, at 8 p.m., with a Sunday, August 2, matinee at 5 p.m. at the 357-seat venue at 328 Main St. Reduced pricing is available for the Thursday show. Tickets are at parkcityshows.com and fredandscott.com, or by phone at 855-745-SHOW.
The Park City run marks the first booked dates for a new acoustic side project the two guitarists hatched after a spontaneous trial run in Washington, D.C. They walked on stage unrehearsed, picked songs from a master list on the fly, and talked to each other and the audience between tunes.
The idea traces back to Tackett's years performing acoustic duo shows with late Little Feat guitarist Paul Barrere. After Barrere's death, Sharrard proposed reviving the format. He had joined Little Feat in 2019 and already had an ongoing acoustic gig in D.C.
Between them, the two carry résumés that stretch across decades of rock history. Tackett, who turns 81 on August 30, played acoustic guitar on Michael Jackson's "Thriller," Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Freebird," and Rickie Lee Jones' "Chuck E.'s In Love." He served as songwriter Jimmy Webb's right-hand guitarist in the 1960s and '70s and worked with Bob Dylan, John Lennon, and Bonnie Raitt.
Sharrard spent a decade as Gregg Allman's music director, bandleader, and co-songwriter. Their partnership produced the Grammy-nominated album "Southern Blood" in 2017. He also co-produced Little Feat's 2025 album "Strike Up The Band."
The setlist will draw on original songs, material created with artists like Lowell George and Allman, and selections from the Little Feat catalogue. The pair have also recorded a new acoustic duo album, produced by Sharrard and longtime engineer Charlie Martinez. Sharrard described the record as roughly 90 percent live, cut with the two musicians facing each other in the studio without headphones. No release date has been announced.
The Egyptian Theatre, which opened on Christmas Day 1926, is in its centennial year.
