Park City planners want resident feedback on proposed wildfire-safety landscaping rules and changes allowing fire-resistant building materials. An open house is set for 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Park City Library.
The city’s planning department is updating its land management code to align with the general plan the Park City Council unanimously approved in September 2025. The prior general plan dated to 2014. KPCW reported the open house Oct. 15.
The updated general plan focuses on five themes: transportation, community character, moderate-income housing, water and open space, and sustainability. In a community survey conducted during the planning process, 71% of respondents identified traffic and congestion as Park City’s biggest challenge, according to KPCW’s coverage of the plan’s adoption.
The open house will cover landscaping, exterior building materials, historic preservation, swimming pools and hot tubs, parking, open space and seasonal housing.
Among the proposed wildfire-related changes, staff recommends limiting landscaping within five feet of structures to ignition-resistant plants. Planners also propose updating regulations to allow fire-resistant materials on home exteriors.
Residents can also comment on sustainability ordinance changes. One proposal would add construction-waste diversion and recycling requirements to the review process for new construction.
University of Utah researchers will attend to gather input on wildfire mitigation, resilience and insurance for an ongoing study.
