Region play helped turn season around

The Miners opened the year 0-3 with losses to Sky View in overtime, at Ridgeline and against Morgan.

Region play turned the season around.

Park City won its opener against Mountain View, lost to Salem Hills at home, then rattled off three straight wins over Provo, Uintah and Wasatch.

A one-point loss at Timpanogos broke the run before the Miners closed region play with a 35-6 victory over Deer Creek.

That 5-2 region record helped Park City secure the No. 15 seed in the 16-team Class 4A state tournament.

Hurricane entered the playoffs at 9-1 with the No. 2 seed, according to the Deseret News' first-round preview.

The Tigers improved to 10-1 with the victory and advanced to face Salem Hills in the quarterfinals.

For Park City, the first-round defeat closes a season in which the Miners recovered from a winless August to finish with five victories and a third-place regional standing.
