North Summit's girls cross country team won its sixth consecutive 2A state championship Oct. 28 at Sugar House Park in Salt Lake City, beating Grand County 46-56.

The Braves placed five runners in the top 19 to hold off a Grand County squad that had beaten them at divisionals, according to results posted by Mid-Utah Radio.

Sophomore Thea Sargent led North Summit with a second-place individual finish in 19:02.15, trailing only Grand County's Hadley Kasprick, who won in 18:48.54.

Isabell Sargent finished fourth (19:55.83), and sophomore Natasha Rodriguez placed eighth (20:54.62). Zetta Brock took 16th (21:46.95) and Jordyn Ernst 19th (22:03.58).

Adilyn Preece (27th, 22:36.41) and Vivian Anson (29th, 22:45.72) rounded out the Braves' roster.

The 10-point margin surprised head coach Dave Peck.

"I got to be honest, I thought the way Grand has done this year, I thought it was only going to be a couple of points for sure, but boy, our girls just stepped up," Peck told the Deseret News.

The title is North Summit's 11th all-time in girls cross country, according to the Utah High School Activities Association records book.

The Coalville school's six-year streak (2021–2026) ranks among the longest consecutive championship runs in Utah girls cross country history. Cedar (1993–2000) and Mountain View (1984–1991) each won eight consecutive titles.

Peck now holds 11 girls cross country state titles as a coach, second all-time behind Mountain View's Dave Houle, who won 14, according to the UHSAA records book.

Boys finish seventh

On the boys side, the Braves placed seventh with 219 team points. Senior Bob Guest was the team's top finisher, taking fourth individually in 16:30.87.

Grand County won the boys title with 49 points, its first state championship in boys cross country.
