Lane closures are back on Homestead Road near the Jeremy Ranch interchange after the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) restarted its I-80 bridge replacement project the week of Sept. 7.

UDOT paused construction in early August so utility companies could relocate infrastructure in the area. That work took about a month. KPCW reported Thursday, Sept. 10 that crews have resumed the project.

During the pause, traffic control was removed and all lanes of Homestead Road reopened to drivers, according to a TownLift report in August. The existing trail also stayed accessible. That reprieve is over.

The project

The agency is replacing two aging Interstate 80 bridges at the Jeremy Ranch interchange. Crews are building the new bridges next to the existing overpasses. When the project launched in late July, UDOT said most traffic impacts would hit Homestead Road, not I-80 itself.

What drivers should expect

Homestead Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction during construction. Drivers will also see lane closures at the Jeremy Ranch and Pinebrook roundabouts.

Crews are scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with night work as needed.

Trail detour

The Homestead trail will stay open for pedestrians and cyclists but will shift onto the road for about two weeks. After that, the trail moves to a temporary location for the rest of the project.

2027 I-80 closures planned

UDOT plans to close portions of I-80 for up to two weekends in 2027 to install the new bridges. Specific dates for those closures have not been announced.

The entire project is expected to wrap up in the summer of 2027.

UDOT spokesperson Kylar Sharp said in an Aug. 10 KPCW interview that drivers could "expect daily lane closures on Homestead Road as crews begin building new bridges."
