The Summit County Fair returns Saturday, August 1, through Saturday, August 8, with free admission and a lineup that includes a demolition derby, three nights of professional rodeo, and a kids' rodeo with registration closing this weekend.
The annual fair, held at the Summit County Fairgrounds at 202 E. Park Rd. in Coalville, draws roughly 20,000 visitors each August, according to county officials. Coalville is about 30 miles northeast of Park City via U.S. 40 and I-80, according to the fair's website.
Most activities are free. Only the demolition derby and PRCA rodeo require tickets.
Opening night: demolition derby
The fair kicks off Saturday, August 1, at 7 p.m. with a demolition derby in the Large Arena. Tickets are $24.
Little Buckaroo Rodeo
Kids ages 0 through 18 can compete in the Little Buckaroo Rodeo on Tuesday, August 4 (timed events) and Wednesday, August 5 (main event), both at 6 p.m. The main event night features mutton busting, calf riding, a chicken chase, boot hunt, and a popsicle eating contest. In mutton busting, children attempt to ride galloping sheep and stay on for six seconds.
Registration closes Sunday, August 2, at 11:59 p.m. Entry fees range from $20 for rough stock events to $10 for timed events and mutton busting. Several day-of activities cost $1, including a stick horse race for ages 5 and under. Age categories run 0–5, 6–8, 9–11, 12–14, and 15–18.
PRCA rodeo
The three-night Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association rodeo runs Thursday, August 6, through Saturday, August 8, at 8 p.m. each night. Events include bull riding, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, barrel racing, tie-down roping, team roping, and steer wrestling. The fair's website says the lineup includes national-level competitors, veteran circuit cowboys, and up-and-coming talent on the road to the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $9 for children ages 4–14, and free for children under 3.
