Food truck and cart operators in Summit County face a new permit structure if the Board of Health approves a proposed Mobile Food Business Permit and fee at its Monday, August 3, meeting.

The board meets at 4 p.m. at the Summit County Health Department's Quinn's Building, 650 Round Valley Drive, Park City, according to the meeting agenda. The meeting is also available via Zoom (webinar ID: 934 1635 7784).

The proposed permit would replace the county's current Food Truck Permit with a broader Mobile Food Business Permit covering both food trucks and food carts. The change aligns Summit County's program with Utah Administrative Rule R392-102 and introduces a state-required two-tier fee structure. No fee amounts have been released.

Nathan Brooks, the county's Environmental Health Director, presented the proposal at the board's June 1 meeting and initiated a 30-day public comment period. The health department's June 11 newsletter noted that written comments were accepted through July 9.

Monday's meeting offers the last chance to comment before the vote. The board has set a dedicated 10-minute public comment window from 4:45 to 4:55 p.m., with the vote expected immediately after.

Residents who want to submit written comments must email [email protected] by noon Friday, July 31. Zoom participants must use their full name as their display ID to be called on for comment.

Budget and health updates also on the agenda

Dr. Phil Bondurant, the Health Department director, and Jennifer Morrill will present the department's 2027 budget recommendations for possible board action. No budget figures have been released in advance.

The meeting's 4:05 p.m. work session includes an opioid readiness assessment update from Pamella Bello. The presentation comes days after the health department's July 28 newsletter warned residents about smoke shop products, including brands labeled "Buzzers" and "Homiez," that may contain hidden synthetic opioids. Several people have become seriously ill after using those products, according to the department.

Nancy Porter, the county epidemiologist, and Derek Moss will also present a measles update during the work session.
