Park City's girls soccer team routed Juan Diego Catholic 8-1 on Monday, Sept. 28, pushing the Miners' record to 15-1 with the 4A playoffs two weeks away.
Park City scored six goals before halftime. The Miners added two more after the break while holding Juan Diego Catholic scoreless in the second half, according to MaxPreps.
Head coach Anthony DiCicco's squad is ranked first in 4A. The 4A bracket will be revealed Oct. 10, with playoff games starting Oct. 13. This year's playoff field has been trimmed from 24 to 16 teams, leaving less margin for error.
"We want to play our best soccer in October, and I think we've had some tremendous games, fantastic goals and awesome performances, and I don't think we've played our best soccer yet," DiCicco said after the Miners' Friday, Sept. 25 senior-night win over Murray, as reported by the Park Record.
DiCicco, who also serves as general manager of the Park City Soccer Club, first coached many of the current seniors when they were 12-year-old girls in the club program. That senior class lost in the 4A championship game in 2023, the quarterfinals in 2024 and the semifinals in 2025. Seniors Marley Filippone, Carmen Fletcher, Elsa Dellenbach and Jo Peterson were among the 14 players honored at the Sept. 25 ceremony.
Park City travels to Highland at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, then closes the regular season at home against Jordan on Monday, Oct. 5.
Tennis punches ticket to state
The Miners girls tennis team finished third at the 4A Region 10 tournament on Saturday, Sept. 26, collecting 41 team points, according to the Park Record. Highland won the event with 60 points, and Judge Memorial Catholic placed second with 45.
The third-place finish sends Park City to the 4A state tournament, which opens Thursday, Oct. 8 at Brighton High School and concludes Friday, Oct. 9 and Oct. 10 at the Liberty Park Tennis Center in Salt Lake City.
