The Jans Winter Welcome needs volunteers for its Saturday, Oct. 24, fundraiser at Stein Eriksen Lodge. The annual gala topped $1 million in revenue for the first time in 2024.

The Youth Sports Alliance, which organizes the event, is looking for help with tasks including printing name tags, checking in attendees and videography, according to The Park Record. Interested volunteers can contact Victoria Cox at the Youth Sports Alliance by email at [email protected] or by phone at (559) 903-7098.

Proceeds support the Youth Sports Alliance and seven local winter sports clubs: Park City Ski & Snowboard, Wasatch Freestyle, Figure Skating Club of Park City, Park City Ice Miners Hockey, Park City Speedskating Club, Utah Olympic Park Bobsled and Skeleton and the Wasatch Luge Club. The clubs provide training for young athletes across Park City's winter sports landscape.

Jan Peterson, founder of Jan's Mountain Outfitters, started the Winter Welcome in 1980 after seeing that some of his daughter's friends could not afford ski racing. The Youth Sports Alliance took over the event in 2002, shortly after the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.

"This started because Jan wanted every kid to have the chance to ski regardless of cost," Emily Fisher, executive director of the Youth Sports Alliance, told The Park Record last fall. Fisher said 2024 marked the first time the event cracked $1 million in revenue.

KPCW reported in August that this year's edition is the 46th annual Jans Winter Welcome. Fisher and Programs Director Heather Sims appeared on the station to discuss preparations and scholarships for local athletes.

The gala brings together the community and the snow sports industry for an evening that includes mingling with Olympic medalists and a live auction, according to the Jan's Mountain Outfitters community page. Last year's event featured dinner, silent and live auctions and dancing.
