Bose Corporation has acquired Skullcandy, the headphone and audio brand founded in Park City, with plans to keep the company's name and Utah base.

The companies announced the acquisition Wednesday, Oct. 21. Bose purchased Skullcandy from a fund managed by Connecticut-based Mill Road Capital Management. The companies did not disclose the purchase price or other financial terms.

Skullcandy will become part of Bose's Premium Consumer Audio business but continue operating as a distinct brand. Bose said it intends to invest in the company's growth through technology, distribution and commercial partnerships.

For Park City, the announcement means Skullcandy will retain its local base more than two decades after its founding.

Kalin Stewart, Skullcandy's director of integrated marketing, told TownLift the company intends to maintain its connections to the community.

The acquisition follows several years of cooperation between the two audio companies. Their Sound by Bose partnership brought Bose technology to Skullcandy headphones and earbuds, including the Method 360 ANC and Crusher 1080 ANC models.

Bose said Skullcandy's ties to boardsports, music, gaming and fitness could help the company connect with customers beyond its traditional markets.

Bose CEO Lila Snyder described Skullcandy as an established brand with opportunities for further growth. Skullcandy CEO Brian Garofalow said the combination would give his company greater access to Bose's engineering and resources.

Skullcandy's origins are closely connected to Park City's ski culture. Founded in 2003, the company traces its beginnings to an idea developed on a chairlift. Its first products were designed to make it easier to switch between listening to music and taking phone calls.

The business later became publicly traded before being taken private by Mill Road in 2016.

The company moved its headquarters within the Kimball Junction area in 2025. The Park City news outlet TownLift reported that the relocation was intended to reduce costs rather than move the business away from the community.

Bose's portfolio also includes McIntosh and Sonus faber, brands focused on high-end home audio equipment. Skullcandy brings a different market position, emphasizing personal audio products and connections to action sports and youth culture.

The companies have not publicly detailed how the acquisition may affect Skullcandy's staffing or day-to-day management. Bose's announcement confirms the brand's continued Park City base but does not establish that other aspects of the business will remain unchanged.
