Summit County residents can haul couches, yard clippings and other household junk to Park City's Munchkin Lot starting Thursday, Oct. 8, and skip the drive to the landfill.

Recycle Utah's fall Dumpster Days run Oct. 8 through Saturday, Oct. 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at 1420 Munchkin Road. The nonprofit will park two large roll-off containers in the lot: one for landfill-bound garbage and one for yard waste headed to composting.

Volunteers will help residents unload.

Recycle Utah is also looking for more volunteers to staff the three-day event. Sign-up details are available at RecycleUtah.org.

What you can bring

The dumpsters accept residential waste only. Couches, old furniture and other bulky household items are fair game, along with leaves, branches and other yard debris.

Recycle Utah Executive Director Andy Hecht previewed the event on KPCW's "Local News Hour" on Sept. 15. "We can accept all landfill, so couches, you know, anything that you don't want to haul out to the landfill yourself," Hecht said.

What's not accepted

Mattresses, tires, refrigerators and hazardous materials are banned from the dumpsters. Recycle Utah's website lists disposal options for those items.

Rules to know

The event is for Summit County residents only. Businesses may not use the dumpsters. Drop-offs are allowed only during event hours, and overnight dumping is prohibited.

Recycle Utah holds Dumpster Days twice a year, in spring and fall, as reported by TownLift. The fall edition gives residents a chance to clear out yard waste before winter and divert it from the landfill to composting.
