Park City High School recorded the highest ACT composite score among five Wasatch Back schools in Utah's 2026 grade 11 testing results, averaging 23.0.
The Utah State Board of Education's school-level results put Park City High above the statewide grade 11 average of 20.0. South Summit High recorded the lowest average among the five schools, at 18.5.
The results cover students who took Utah's state-administered ACT during the 2025-26 school year. The state provides the college-readiness exam to public school juniors at no cost.
How local schools compare
Park City High's composite score was 3.0 points above the statewide grade 11 average.
Silver Summit Academy had the second-highest score among the five Wasatch Back schools, averaging 21.4.
Wasatch High followed at 21.3, while North Summit High averaged 19.9.
South Summit High recorded an average of 18.5, placing it 4.5 points below Park City High.
The figures come from the state board's 2026 ACT Grade 11 school-level report, updated Sept. 18.
Small schools can affect comparisons
Scott Roskelley, the state board's test administration and data coordinator, cautioned that smaller testing groups can make school averages difficult to compare.
Speaking to KPCW, Roskelley said results from smaller districts and charter schools can vary more because fewer students contribute to their averages.
The state report flags some results involving fewer than 10 students. Silver Summit Academy has such a notation for the percentage of students scoring 18 or higher.
Roskelley also discussed differences in ACT preparation opportunities. He told KPCW that the state offers free preparation through Shmoop, but not every school uses the service.
KPCW reported that Park City High offers ACT preparation services while South Summit High does not. The available data does not establish how much preparation access contributes to differences in scores.
Statewide ACT results
Utah also reported an improvement in its graduating-class ACT results, which cover a different student population.
According to an Oct. 14 state board announcement, the Class of 2026 averaged 20.1 on the ACT. That was up from 19.9 for the Class of 2025.
The national graduating-class average was 18.8.
The state reported that 44,756 Utah public school students in the graduating class took the exam.
The graduating-class figures include students who took the ACT at any point between 10th and 12th grade. The school-level figures discussed earlier cover the state-administered test for 11th graders.
Those differences in reporting groups mean the two sets of averages should not be treated as identical measures.
Families can find ACT information and preparation resources through the Utah State Board of Education's assessment program.
