Crews began milling and resurfacing SR-224 through Old Town Park City on Monday, Aug. 3, bringing overnight lane closures to one of the city's busiest corridors expected to last through fall.
The Utah Department of Transportation's pavement preservation project covers roughly one mile between the Marsac Roundabout and the SR-248 (Kearns Boulevard) intersection. Milling and paving operations run nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., with work extending until 8 a.m. on Sunday mornings, according to UDOT's project page.
Drivers should expect temporary lane and shoulder closures, traffic shifts, reduced speeds through the work zone and travel delays, TownLift reported. Access to homes, businesses and transit stops will remain open throughout the project, UDOT said.
The work goes beyond a simple resurface. UDOT's scope includes ADA pedestrian ramp upgrades, sidewalk improvements, new pavement markings and striping, sign replacements, traffic signal upgrades and landscaping restoration.
Pedestrians and cyclists may encounter temporary route adjustments while crews are working.
What nearby residents should know
People living along the SR-224 corridor should expect nighttime construction noise and bright construction lighting directed toward work areas for the duration of the project. UDOT has not announced a specific completion date.
UDOT spokesperson Kylar Sharp told KPCW on July 30, when previewing the project ahead of its start, that "most other activities will occur during the daytime hours." The confirmed overnight paving hours shifted slightly from Sharp's preview estimate of 9 p.m. to the 8 p.m. start now posted on UDOT's official project page.
Other active SR-224 projects
The Old Town paving is one of at least three active UDOT projects on the SR-224 corridor this summer, alongside the Bobsled Express Bus Rapid Transit project and a left-turn lane project at the Ute Boulevard intersection near Kimball Junction. As we reported July 30, the repaving and turn-lane work were both scheduled to begin the week of Aug. 3.
