Shaun White told Park City business leaders that his Snow League will bring elite halfpipe competition to Park City Mountain from Jan. 21-23, 2027.
White, a three-time Olympic gold medalist and Snow League founder, spoke at the Park City Chamber of Commerce's Fall Tourism Forum on Oct. 28. The appearance was first reported by TownLift. Local communications professional Tom Kelly led the on-stage conversation.
The three-day event fills a winter weekend left open by the Sundance Film Festival's move to Boulder, Colorado. Park City Council approved a special event permit for the competition in October.
Equal pay and a platform between Olympics
White said the league grew out of a desire to give snowboarding and freeskiing greater recognition as professional sports. He described it as a way to give athletes a consistent platform to compete and tell their stories, particularly between Olympic years.
"For me, it was all about legitimizing the sport, bringing a professionalism to it," White said, according to TownLift.
White said the league includes equal pay for men and women. He hopes the Snow League will help younger athletes see a clearer path from amateur competitions to the professional and Olympic levels.
What the event looks like
The Snow League's official announcement lists 60 athletes from 12 countries on its Season Two roster, including eight of the 12 halfpipe medalists from the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics.
Zoe Atkin, who grew up in Park City and won bronze in women's freeski halfpipe at the 2026 Olympics, is among the scheduled competitors.
"Park City is home for me, so getting the chance to compete in The Snow League here is going to be really special," Atkin said in the league's announcement.
Athletes will compete head-to-head on Park City Mountain's upgraded 22-foot halfpipe. The resort built the foundation for the larger pipe during the summer, restoring a competition feature last constructed there for the 2019 world championships.
White said Park City holds a special place in his snowboarding career because of the tricks he learned and competitions he attended there.
Beyond the halfpipe, organizers are planning live music, public entertainment and activities for spectators. Additional programming details are expected closer to the event.
