Park City High School graduate Wes Campbell has been nominated to U.S. Biathlon’s IBU Cup preparation camp in Lake Placid, N.Y., this November.
Campbell, 22, is one of six athletes selected following the U.S. Biathlon Fall Festival and International Team Trials at Soldier Hollow in Midway, U.S. Biathlon announced Oct. 13.
The camp will take place within a Nov. 8–22 window, with exact dates still to be determined.
Under U.S. Biathlon’s selection criteria, athletes named to the Lake Placid camp will also be named to the team for the first two IBU Cup stops, in Sweden and Norway. Nordic Magazine also reported that qualification pathway.
Campbell races for the Craftsbury Green Racing Project. He graduated from Michigan Technological University this spring after studying computer engineering and competing on its Nordic ski team, according to Craftsbury’s announcement.
At the Oct. 10 trials sprint, Campbell finished fifth, according to his team’s recap. The two-day trials used roller skis supplied by U.S. Biathlon.
Campbell has previous international experience. In January 2025, he placed ninth in an IBU Junior Cup 12-kilometer mass start in Jakuszyce, Poland. He was the top American finisher and achieved a personal best at that level, TownLift reported.
His U.S. Biathlon profile lists world championship appearances in 2021 and 2022.
Campbell began skiing at age 2, when his family moved to Park City. He started cross-country skiing with the Park City Ski Club at 10 and took up biathlon at Soldier Hollow at 13, according to the profile.
Heber City’s Lina Farra also received a Lake Placid nomination. The other athletes are Sarah Beaulieu, Tim Cunningham, Eric Anderson and Thor Sheppard.
Salt Lake City’s Vincent Bonacci was among 12 athletes nominated to a separate preseason selection camp in Obertilliach, Austria.
