Dan Vorenberg, a school leader with more than 30 years of experience running independent schools, has started as interim head of Park City Day School for the 2026-27 academic year.
The Board of Trustees announced the appointment July 22, following a search for a leader who could steady the school after the departure of Brad McCutcheon, who recently stepped down. The school year begins Aug. 19.
"Dan stood out from the beginning as exactly the kind of leader we were seeking," board president Jon Golden said in the announcement. "His deep understanding of independent schools, approachable leadership style and thoughtful vision for the future make him exceptionally well suited to lead Park City Day School during this important transition year."
Vorenberg comes to Park City from New Roads School in Los Angeles, where he served as interim head. Before that he held leadership roles at Mirman School in Los Angeles, Columbus Academy in Ohio, and the Atrium School in the Boston area. He began his teaching career at Shady Hill School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and taught at Milton Academy.
Vorenberg said he was drawn to Park City Day School's commitment to outdoor and experiential education, its close-knit community, and its focus on whole-child development. He called the opportunity to lead the school during its transition year "my good fortune."
Park City Day School is Park City's only accredited independent school, serving students from toddler through eighth grade. Founded in 2010 through the merger of The Colby School and Park City Academy, the school is accredited by the Northwest Association of Independent Schools.
McCutcheon had led the school through its 15th anniversary year. At the anniversary kickoff in August 2025, he spoke of the founders' dream of "a school where children are truly known, challenged and inspired." Golden, then identified as board chair, said at that event that the school was "setting the course for another 15-plus years of experience-based learning, academic achievement and community impact."
The board said in its announcement that it selected Vorenberg to "provide stability while helping prepare the school for its next permanent head." No timeline for a permanent search has been announced.
