Nearly 30 Park City businesses have enlisted a law firm to represent their interests in the city's proposed Five-Acre Bonanza Park development.

R. McConnell Group, which has a Salt Lake City office, says it is representing the businesses at no charge. The firm has submitted objections to the Planning Commission and requested city records about the project.

The businesses operate restaurants, shops and other establishments near the city-owned property at Bonanza Drive and Kearns Boulevard.

In a Sept. 18 submission, the firm represented 22 neighboring businesses. Its objections addressed whether the proposed development meets city code requirements, including those involving the project's design and impacts on surrounding properties.

The firm's website now says its client group has grown to nearly 30 businesses.

The attorneys have also pursued documents under Utah's Government Records Access and Management Act, known as GRAMA.

The firm submitted a records request Sept. 17 and narrowed it to six items Oct. 12. It has also asked the city to waive fees associated with the request.

The legal filings add another dimension to a public debate over the development's size, design and effect on nearby businesses.

As The Basin News previously reported, residents raised concerns about building heights and mountain views at the Oct. 14 Planning Commission hearing.

The city and its development partner, Brinshore Development LLC, have paused further project review while the design team considers revisions.

The proposal includes 106 residential units, commercial space, a childcare facility and public open space. Of the homes, 88 would be income-restricted.

Park City has said the proposal remains under review. The Planning Commission has not issued a final decision on the development.
