The Leadership Park City Alumni Association is betting that behind-the-scenes tours, fall foliage and line dancing can keep more than 900 program graduates connected to each other and to the community.
Board President Frank Lynch and Treasurer Betsy Wallace laid out a six-event fall and winter calendar in a KPCW report published Aug. 4, following a July 29 appearance on the station's Local News Hour.
The schedule kicks off Wednesday, Sept. 2 with a quarterly coffee at Lucky Ones. Lynch said current Leadership class member Allison Williams, who works at the cafe, suggested the venue. "She reached out the other day and said, 'Hey, can we have it here?' So, what a great place to start," Lynch told KPCW on July 29.
A second quarterly coffee featuring a behind-the-scenes tour of KPCW is in the works but not yet confirmed.
On Saturday, Sept. 26, the group gathers at Brighton Estates, described as the Fisher property, starting around 3 p.m. Lynch called the family-friendly outing one of the association's best settings when fall color is at its peak.
Three more events round out the year:
- Oct. 15: ALLx speaker series, featuring three alumni sharing leadership experiences
- Nov. 5: Line dancing lessons at The Cabin on Main Street
- Dec. 10: Annual holiday potluck at a private home, one of the group's largest gatherings
Annual membership runs $100 and covers admission to all monthly events.
Nonprofit status shift on the table
Beyond programming, the board is researching whether to convert from a 501(c)(4) to a 501(c)(3). Wallace told KPCW the change would let donors claim tax deductions and open the door to grants and sponsorships. Under the current designation, membership fees are not tax-deductible.
No vote has been scheduled.
Leadership Park City, the parent civic program administered through the City of Park City, has trained community leaders for roughly 30 years. Applications are open for its 33rd class, with up to 35 spots available.
